A Botanical Record of the Phaedrae Formulary
At its inception, Phaedra Botanicals focused exclusively on water-less formulations. The guiding principle was to deliver undiluted, sensorial-rich skincare free from essential oils.

By eliminating water as a primary solvent, our formulations prioritized botanical potency, stability, and skin affinity.

This philosophy originated with our French organic Ente plum oil, an antioxidant-rich lipid with a naturally occurring, signature aroma. This olfactory marker continues to define many of our formulations today.

Accordingly, the Water-less Line became the first expression of The Phaedrae® Formulary and remains a central pillar of our work.

Our evolution

The next step in our evolution involved utilizing slow-steamed botanical waters from Occitanie, France. Traditional techniques produce these waters without rushing extraction or using solvents.

These waters contain high levels of naturally occurring polyphenols. They gave rise to our botanical waters and define our most exclusive line, The Fresh Series.

The Fresh Series allowed us to follow our own path. We chose to produce formulations only upon order.

This approach prevents waste and unnecessary energy use. It also ensures delivery of freshly prepared products at peak potency (learn more).

Our focus shifted to raw ingredients never exposed to heat, which could reduce efficacy. This approach led to the development of fresh formulations designed for immediate use at maximal phytochemical activity.

Guiding Principles of Our Formulation Practice

These two lines—the Water-less Line and The Fresh Series—defined the methodological and ethical foundation of our work. Together, they established our approach to formulation and continue to guide all subsequent creations.

  • We give preference to raw materials delivered fresh.
  • We rely on independent laboratory testing to assess quality, ingredient efficacy, and purity, including heavy metal analysis, particularly for formulations intended for sensitive skin.
  • We develop proprietary formulations to avoid replication and unnecessary similarity with existing products.
  • We maintain transparency and adhere to an ethical approach, with a primary focus on product quality, sustainability, and safe packaging, as outlined in Atelier Phaedrae (coming soon).
