At Phaedra Botanicals, we use a certified organic CO₂ extract of sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) prepared in Germany.
Our first batch contains approximately 38.3% linoleic acid (omega-6) and 30.9% alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3), resulting in a lipid profile dominated by polyunsaturated fatty acids. It also naturally contains phytosterols and tocopherols, compounds that have been studied for their role in supporting skin barrier function and protecting against oxidative stress.
The extract contains 1.3% naturally occurring sterols and maintains a low peroxide value of 4.0 meq O₂/kg, reflecting the freshness and stability of the material at the time of testing.
We selected this extract for its naturally occurring fatty acid composition and its compatibility with formulations designed to support skin comfort and barrier care.
